WHERE WE ARE

TORCROSS

The beach at Torcross on a summers day

The village is situated mid way between Dartmouth and Kingsbridge (7 miles) on the main coastal road (the A379) at the southern end of Slapton Sands in Start Bay, South Devon. For Map Click HERE.  Torcross has a range of amenities including cafes / restaurants, post office / general stores, gift shops and a popular pub.  The beach affords safe supervised swimming with un-crowded areas for relaxation.  The South West Coast Path passes through the village enabling visitors to enjoy the dramatic coast line with it's secret coves and beaches.  Torcross is unique in its location  having the sea on one side of the village and a large fresh water lake (Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve) on the other side.  The ley famed for its natural beauty is a haven for birds and wildlife and is managed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest by the Slapton Field Centre just over a mile away in the village of Slapton. On display in Torcross is a World War 2 American Sherman Tank which rescued from the sea serves as a memorial to all the American service men who lost their lives during the training exercises carried out on Slapton sands prior to the Normandy Landings.  For more about the area see www.stokenham-pc.gov.uk
